The Golgi apparatus, first described by Camillo Golgi in $1898$,is a membrane-bound organelle found in eukaryotic cells.
It consists of many flat,disc-shaped sacs or cisternae, stacked parallel to each other.
These cisternae are concentrically arranged near the nucleus with distinct convex 'cis' (forming) face and concave 'trans' (maturing) face.
The Golgi apparatus primarily performs the function of packaging materials, both proteins and lipids,to be delivered either to the intracellular targets or secreted outside the cell.
It is also the important site for the formation of glycoproteins and glycolipids.
