The position between the two $-CH_3$ groups (position $2$) is sterically hindered,so no significant substitution occurs there.$2$. The $4$ and $6$ positions are equivalent and are ortho to one $-CH_3$ group and para to the other,making them the most favorable sites for substitution.$3$. The $5$ position is meta to both $-CH_3$ groups and is less activated.Therefore,the major products formed are $4$-bromo-$1,3$-dimethylbenzene and $6$-bromo-$1,3$-dimethylbenzene (which are equivalent due to symmetry) or substitution at the $4$ and $6$ positions relative to the methyl groups.
