(B) The reaction is an electrophilic aromatic substitution (bromination) of $m$-xylene ($1$,$3$-dimethylbenzene) using $Br_2$ in the presence of a Lewis acid catalyst $(FeCl_3)$.$1$. The methyl groups $(-CH_3)$ are ortho/para directing and activating groups.$2$. In $m$-xylene,the positions $2$,$4$,and $6$ are available for substitution.$3$. Position $2$ is sterically hindered due to the presence of two methyl groups at positions $1$ and $3$.$4$. Positions $4$ and $6$ are equivalent and are less sterically hindered than position $2$.$5$. Therefore,the electrophile $(Br^+)$ attacks the $4$-position (or $6$-position) to form the major product,which is $4$-bromo-$1,3$-dimethylbenzene.
