(N/A) The product of the mass and velocity of a body is called its linear momentum.
$\therefore$ Linear momentum $(P)$,
$P = \text{mass} \times \text{velocity}$
$P = m v$
Momentum is a vector quantity, and its direction is the same as the direction of velocity.
The $SI$ unit of momentum is $kg \cdot m/s$ or $N \cdot s$.
The $CGS$ unit of momentum is $g \cdot cm/s$.
The dimensional formula of momentum is $[M^1 L^1 T^{-1}]$.

$A$ ball of mass $50 \,g$ is dropped from a height of $20 \,m$. $A$ boy on the ground hits the ball vertically upwards with a bat with an average force of $200 \,N$,so that it attains a vertical height of $45 \,m$. The time for which the ball remains in contact with the bat is ........... of a second. [Take $g = 10 \,m/s^2$]

$A$ force of $10 \, N$ acts on a body of mass $20 \, kg$ for $10 \, s$. The change in its momentum is ........... $kg \cdot m/s$.

If impulse $I$ varies with time $t$ as $I \text{ (kg m s}^{-1}) = 20 t^2 - 40 t$. The change in momentum is minimum at ........... $s$.

Three different projectiles, each with the same mass $m$,are fired with speed $v$ at a wall. In case $A$,the projectile bounces straight back with speed $v$. In case $B$,the projectile sticks to the wall. In case $C$,the projectile crashes through the wall and emerges with half its original speed. These three cases are shown in the figure. Place the magnitude of the impulse exerted by the wall on the projectile in each of these three cases in the correct order.

Two identical billiard balls strike a rigid wall with the same speed but at different angles, and get reflected without any change in speed,as shown in the figure. What is
$(i)$ the direction of the force on the wall due to each ball?
$(ii)$ the ratio of the magnitudes of impulses imparted to the balls by the wall?
