(A) $(i)$ Aniline is highly reactive towards electrophilic substitution. When treated with $Br_2$ in $H_2O$,it undergoes rapid poly-substitution to form $2, 4, 6-$tribromoaniline as the major product $(X)$.$(ii)$ To control the reactivity of the $-NH_2$ group,it is first acetylated using acetic anhydride $(CH_3CO)_2O$ to form acetanilide. The $-NHCOCH_3$ group is less activating than the $-NH_2$ group,which restricts the bromination to the $p-$position,yielding $p-$bromoacetanilide as the major product $(Y)$.
