$(a)$ To avoid the misuse of $MTP$ for female foeticide,which is a social evil and illegal.
$(b)$ To ensure the safety of the mother,as $MTP$ is performed only when the continuation of the pregnancy could be harmful or even fatal to the mother or the foetus,or if the foetus suffers from severe physical or mental abnormalities.
