(N/A) Condoms are a type of barrier method used for contraception. They are available for both males and females.
$(i)$ Mechanism: In this method, the ovum and sperms are prevented from physically meeting with the help of barriers.
(ii) Physical Method: Condoms are barriers made of thin rubber or latex sheaths. Male condoms are used to cover the penis, while female condoms are used to cover the vagina and cervix just before coitus,so that the ejaculated semen does not enter the female reproductive tract. This prevents conception.
(iii) Advantages: Nirodh is a popular brand of male condom. The use of condoms has increased in recent years due to their additional benefit of protecting the user from contracting Sexually Transmitted Infections $(STIs)$ and $AIDS$. They can be self-inserted,providing privacy to the user.
(iv) Other Barriers: Diaphragms, cervical caps, and vaults are also rubber barriers inserted into the female reproductive tract to cover the cervix during coitus. They prevent conception by blocking the entry of sperms through the cervix and are reusable.
$(v)$ Chemical Method: Spermicidal creams, jellies, and foams are often used along with these barriers to increase their contraceptive efficiency.
