$\rightarrow$ Binomial nomenclature was developed by Carolus Linnaeus in $1751$.
$\rightarrow$ Binomial nomenclature is the system of providing distinct and appropriate names to organisms, each consisting of two words: the first is the generic name (i.e.,name of the genus) and the second is the specific epithet (i.e.,name of the species).
$\rightarrow$ For example, the scientific name of Mango is written as $Mangifera \ indica$.
$\rightarrow$ In this name,$Mangifera$ represents the genus and $indica$ is the specific epithet.
$\rightarrow$ Advantages of Binomial Nomenclature:
$(1)$ Binomial names are universally acceptable and recognized.
$(2)$ They remain the same in all languages.
$(3)$ The names are short and precise.
$(4)$ It provides a mechanism to assign a scientific name to every newly discovered organism.
$(5)$ The names indicate the relationship of a species with other species present in the same genus.
$(6)$ $A$ new organism can be easily provided with a unique scientific name.
