(N/A) India was among the first countries in the world to initiate action plans and programmes at a national level to attain total reproductive health as a social goal.
These programmes, historically called 'family planning',were initiated in $1951$ and have been periodically assessed over the past decades.
Currently,these programmes operate under the popular name '$RCH$' ($Reproductive$ $and$ $Child$ $Health$ care programme).
Major tasks of these programmes include:
$1$. Creating awareness among people about various reproduction-related aspects.
$2$. Providing facilities and support for building up a reproductively healthy society.
$3$. Providing medical assistance and care to mothers and children to reduce maternal and infant mortality rates.
