At high temperatures,limestone decomposes to form calcium oxide $(CaO)$,which acts as a basic flux: $CaCO_3 \rightarrow CaO + CO_2$ Then,$CaO$ reacts with the silica impurity to form calcium silicate slag $(CaSiO_3)$: $CaO + SiO_2 \rightarrow CaSiO_3$ Thus,the correct flux used is limestone.
