(A) Pyruvate is formed by the glycolytic catabolism of carbohydrates in the cytosol.After entering the mitochondrial matrix,it undergoes oxidative decarboxylation through a complex set of reactions catalyzed by the enzyme complex pyruvic dehydrogenase.Pyruvic dehydrogenase functions in the presence of cofactors like $NAD^{+}$ and Coenzyme $A$ $(CoA)$.The reaction is: $	ext{Pyruvic acid} + CoA + NAD^{+} \xrightarrow{Mg^{2+}, 	ext{Pyruvate dehydrogenase}} 	ext{Acetyl } CoA + CO_{2} + NADH + H^{+}$.During this process,two molecules of $NADH$ are produced from the metabolism of two molecules of pyruvic acid (which were produced from one glucose molecule during glycolysis).The resulting Acetyl $CoA$ then enters a cyclic pathway known as the tricarboxylic acid cycle,or Krebs' cycle.
