(B) The reaction of a primary amine (like $p-toluidine$) with chloroform $(CHCl_3)$ and alcoholic potassium hydroxide $(KOH)$ is known as the carbylamine reaction or isocyanide test. In this reaction,the primary amine is converted into an isocyanide (also called carbylamine),which has a characteristic foul smell. $p-Toluidine$ is $4-methylaniline$. The reaction is: $CH_3-C_6H_4-NH_2 + CHCl_3 + 3KOH(alc.) \rightarrow CH_3-C_6H_4-NC + 3KCl + 3H_2O$. Thus,the product formed is $p-tolyl$ isocyanide.
