(B) The most widely accepted theory for the translocation of organic solutes (sugars) in plants is the $Mass \ flow \ hypothesis$,also known as the $Pressure \ flow \ hypothesis$ or $Munch \ hypothesis$.According to this theory,glucose produced in the source (leaves) is converted into sucrose and loaded into the phloem sieve tube elements.This loading creates a high osmotic pressure,causing water to enter the phloem from the adjacent xylem by osmosis.This results in a high hydrostatic pressure (turgor pressure) at the source,which pushes the sap towards the sink (areas of low pressure),where the solutes are unloaded.
