(B) The exchange of gases occurs due to the partial pressure gradient of $O_2$ and $CO_2$. In the lungs,the partial pressure of oxygen $(pO_2)$ is high,which promotes the binding of $O_2$ with haemoglobin to form oxyhaemoglobin. As blood reaches the tissues,the $pO_2$ is significantly lower compared to the blood because the tissues continuously consume $O_2$ for cellular respiration. Due to this lower $pO_2$ in the tissues,the affinity of haemoglobin for $O_2$ decreases,causing the oxyhaemoglobin to dissociate and release $O_2$ into the tissues.
