Its primary function is to regulate electrolyte balance by promoting the reabsorption of $Na^+$ and water from the distal convoluted tubules and collecting ducts of the nephrons,while simultaneously promoting the excretion of $K^+$. The secretion of aldosterone is stimulated by two main factors: $(1)$ $A$ decrease in the concentration of $Na^+$ in the blood plasma,which is often detected via the Renin-Angiotensin-Aldosterone System $(RAAS)$,and $(2)$ An increase in the concentration of $K^+$ in the blood plasma,which directly acts on the adrenal cortex to trigger aldosterone release. Therefore,both factors contribute to the stimulation of its secretion.
