(A) The opening and closing of stomata are primarily regulated by the movement of potassium ions $(K^+)$ in and out of the guard cells. When $K^+$ ions enter the guard cells,the osmotic pressure increases,causing water to enter the cells via osmosis. This leads to the turgidity of guard cells,which causes the stomatal pore to open. Conversely,the exit of $K^+$ ions leads to a decrease in turgor pressure,causing the stomata to close.
