(B) The diazo-coupling reaction is an electrophilic aromatic substitution reaction. The reactivity of the diazonium ion towards coupling depends on the electrophilicity of the diazonium cation. Greater electron-withdrawing character of the substituent on the benzene ring increases the electrophilicity of the diazonium group,thereby increasing the reactivity. The substituent effects are as follows:$(I)$ $-NMe_2$: Strong $+M$ effect (strongly electron-donating).$(II)$ $-NO_2$: Strong $-M$ effect (strongly electron-withdrawing).$(III)$ $-OCH_3$: $+M$ effect (electron-donating).$(IV)$ $-CH_3$: $+I$ effect (weakly electron-donating).Thus,the electron-withdrawing order is: $-NO_2 > -CH_3 > -OCH_3 > -NMe_2$.Therefore,the order of reactivity is: $(I) < (III) < (IV) < (II)$.
