Subsequently,the $C-2$ carbon atom undergoes oxidation to a carbonyl group,which then reacts with another molecule of phenylhydrazine to form the osazone. Thus,the $C-1$ and $C-2$ carbon atoms are involved in the process due to the oxidation of the $C-2$ hydroxyl group.
