The primary $CO_2$ fixation occurs in the mesophyll cells,where $CO_2$ is converted into a $4$-carbon compound called oxaloacetate by the enzyme $PEP$ carboxylase.$2$. The $4$-carbon compound is then transported to the bundle sheath cells.$3$. In the bundle sheath cells,the $4$-carbon compound is broken down to release $CO_2$,which is then fixed again by the $RuBisCO$ enzyme in the Calvin cycle.Therefore,the final carbon fixation (re-fixation) occurs in the chloroplasts of the bundle sheath cells.
