The magnetic force acting on the particle is given by $\vec{F} = q(\vec{v} 	imes \vec{B})$,which is always perpendicular to the velocity $\vec{v}$. Since the force is perpendicular to the velocity,it does no work on the particle,and therefore,the speed of the particle remains constant inside the dees.When the particle crosses the gap between the dees,it is subjected to an oscillating electric field. This electric field exerts an electric force on the particle,which does work on it,thereby increasing its kinetic energy and speed.
