During this process,blood is filtered through three layers: the endothelium of glomerular blood vessels,the epithelium of Bowman's capsule (podocytes),and a basement membrane between these two layers. Due to the high pressure in the glomerular capillaries,almost all constituents of the blood plasma,except for the large plasma proteins,pass into the lumen of Bowman's capsule. Therefore,the glomerular filtrate is essentially blood plasma that is devoid of proteins.
