(N/A) Common naming of ethers: The names of the alkyl or aryl groups attached to the oxygen atom are written in alphabetical order, followed by the word 'ether'. If both groups are the same, the prefix 'di-' is used.
Examples:
$(i)$ $CH_3-O-C_2H_5$: Ethyl methyl ether
$(ii)$ $CH_3-O-CH(CH_3)_2$: Methyl isopropyl ether
$(iii)$ $C_2H_5-O-C_2H_5$: Diethyl ether
$IUPAC$ naming of ethers: Ethers are named as alkoxyalkanes. The smaller alkyl group is treated as part of the alkoxy group, while the larger alkyl group is treated as the parent alkane.
Examples:
$(i)$ $CH_3-O-CH_3$: Methoxymethane
$(ii)$ $CH_3-O-C_2H_5$: Methoxyethane
$(iii)$ $CH_3-O-CH_2CH_2CH_3$: $1-$Methoxypropane
